Upcoming event called “Organic Picnic & Retreat”, I am thinking of providing lunch boxes as an option.
Something easy to bring, delicious and feel happy. One of option would be “Omusubi”, I normally call it “Onigiri”.
It is known as “Rice Ball” in English.
Omusubi(おむすび)? Onigiri(おにぎり)? What are the difference?Depends on region, it may call differently.
There is a theory that onigiri comes from the Japanese word "onikiri" which means to cut a demon. There is also a theory that omusubi comes from a god that appears in the Kojiki (古事記) or the auspicious word that brings people together in good relationships, called "o-musubi.
(お結び)"

I normally call “Onigiri” however I used “Omusubi” as this blog title because "Omusubi(お結び)" bring people together in good connection.
Omusubi/Onigiri has various shapes and design.
Popular omusubi filling (具) – sake (salmon), okaka, umeboshi (salted plum)..
Shape – triangle round, tawara, sankaku, temari…etc
Triangle(三角), Round(丸), tawara(俵), temari(手毬)…and so on.
wrapped with nori (seaweed), thin egg, shiso leave…
Omusubi is one of interesting food that it has many different types, tastes and designs.
The main diffence between Omusubi and Norimaki is rice. If the rice contains sanbaizu (vinegar, soy sauce, mirin) , it is Sushi rice.
Sushi rice wrapped with Nori is norimaki.

One of my precious onigiri I made before was “Cherry Blossoms Onigiri”.
Homemade dried/salted cherry blossoms petals (organic) was one of ingredients.
I also added it on top so that it looks beautiful and tasty. Since I normally do not pick many flower petals from my cherry tree, it is so special and precious. It is very seasonal and organic. Eating it brings true joy and happiness.
I have not decided what kind of "Omusubi" I am going to make for the picnic yet.
A lot of things to say about Omusubi. however I shall finish this for now.
Love & peace
